Embark on a 7-day wildlife safari in Kenya and witness the magnificence of the Big 5 African mammals in their natural savanna habitat. The tour includes visits to Masai Mara National Reserve, Lake Naivasha, and Lake Nakuru national parks. These protected areas boast breathtaking landscapes, ranging from open savanna plains to riverine forests, rift valley cliffs, and waterfalls. Activities include game drives, bush walks, lake Naivasha boat cruises, and hot air balloon safaris. You will also experience the Maasai culture and visit the Maasai on a guided community tour. The tour includes private road transfers.
Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our tour guide/driver will wait to greet you and pick you up. We will drive you to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. If time permits, we highly recommend visiting the Sheldrick Elephant Trust, one of Nairobi's animal orphanage centres. Here, rescued baby giraffes, elephants, and rhinos are cared for before being released back into the wild. You may also consider adopting an animal for charity to show your generosity and support for Kenyan wildlife. Another great optional activity is to head to the Kenyatta Convention Center rooftop for sunset and take in the stunning views of the city.
Lake Naivasha is located 104 kilometres northwest of Nairobi, which takes about two hours by car. After having breakfast, you will drive to the rift valley floor. Once you arrive, you can check into your lodge and take an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Naivasha. Additionally, you can participate in a guided nature walk with a ranger. Lake Naivasha is the only freshwater lake in Kenya's Rift Valley and attracts hippos and crocodiles. The grasslands surrounding the lake are home to a variety of large mammal species, including giraffes, buffalos, zebras, elands, Grant's gazelles, and bushbucks, as well as predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It is worth noting that the lake was previously used as an airstrip for flying boats from the United Kingdom to Nairobi.
Accommodation: Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge is situated on the banks of Lake Naivasha with views of Mount Longonot (2,776 m.a.s.l), an extinct volcano to the southeast.
Lake Nakuru is located 80 km north of Naivasha, just a one-hour drive away. You can enjoy a mid-morning game drive and have all-day fun with a packed lunch at the rocky outcrops like Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill, which inspired the movie "Out of Africa" (1985). From those vantage points, you will have a stunning view of the lake and the Rift Valley. In the evening, continue a wildlife drive before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Lake Nakuru National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, with 56 mammal species, including black and white rhinos, which are the main attraction. You'll also see giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, gazelles, and impalas. The park is also a paradise for bird watchers, with over 450 bird species, including the lesser and greater flamingos seen on the lake.
Today, you will take a long-distance road from Nakuru that covers 236 km (a 6-hour drive) to reach Maasai Mara in the Rift Valley, southwest Kenya. Arrive in the afternoon, settle into the lodge and have lunch, then go on an evening game drive to see the wildlife. Masai Mara National Reserve is an open grassland that serves as a habitat for the Big 5 African mammals, including rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, lions, and leopards. In addition, it's home to over 500 species of birds. From the lookout points, witness the annual migration of wildebeests across the Mara and Talek rivers between July and September. The reserve is also home to cheetahs, African-painted dogs, spotted hyenas, impalas, zebras, giraffes, gazelles, elands, and bushbucks. You can find riverine forests that support hippos, crocodiles, and bushbucks along the rivers. There are several ways to experience the wildlife, such as game drives, guided bush walks, or Hot air Balloon Safaris. The park offers opportunities to experience the history and culture of the Maasai people through dinner and an overnight stay.
A knowledgeable tour guide will take visitors on a game drive before sunrise, the best time to spot predators such as lions, African wild dogs, cheetahs, and leopards. After the game drive, you can return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation or take a packed lunch to maximise wildlife viewing at noon. Most large mammals, especially elephants, are usually found near water sources. In addition to the game drive, you could opt for a hot-air balloon safari in the early morning, including a bush dining experience and champagne. The evening game drive is equally enchanting, featuring golden sunsets, sundowners, and a campfire at the lodge before dinner and overnight stay. For those interested in seeing nocturnal creatures like foxes, owls, hyenas, porcupines, and lions, night game drives in private or community conservancies are available.
After breakfast, you can visit the Maasai community to participate in cultural activities or go on a guided bush walk with a ranger to see wildlife on foot. Once you have completed your activity, you will check out of Mara and drive back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon. You will then check in at the hotel and unwind as you prepare for your departure flight tomorrow. You may want to go out for a nightlife experience in the evening.
To ensure a smooth departure, please pack your luggage and arrive at the airport on schedule for your flight.
