Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a conservation area located in central Uganda, established with the aim of bringing back the endangered white rhinoceros population. It is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in their natural habitat. The sanctuary is situated on a 70 square kilometer piece of land and is home to over 40 rhinos. The sanctuary is open to visitors and offers a unique opportunity to see these magnificent animals up close while contributing to their conservation. 1. Rhino Trekking: The highlight of the sanctuary is the guided rhino trekking experience. You will walk through the sanctuary with an experienced guide who will lead you to where the rhinos are grazing. You will be able to get up close to these magnificent creatures and observe them in their natural habitat.
2. Bird Watching: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is home to over 250 bird species. You can take a guided bird-watching tour and see a variety of birds such as the African fish eagle, goliath heron, shoe-billed stork, and yellow-billed stork.
3. Nature Walks: The sanctuary offers several nature trails that allow visitors to explore the area on foot. You can take a leisurely walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery, observe the wildlife, and learn about the local flora and fauna.
4. Canoeing: You can take a canoe ride on the Kafu River which borders the sanctuary. This is a great opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birds.

The best time to visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is during the dry season, which runs from December to February and from June to August. During this time, the vegetation is less dense, making it easier to spot the rhinos, and the weather is generally pleasant. However, since the sanctuary is open year-round, you can visit anytime you like.
