This 7-day Safari and Beach Tour in Kenya offers an opportunity to explore the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the Rift Valley and Mombasa and Diani Beach on the Indian Ocean coast. The Masai Mara covers an area of 1,510 sq. km with rolling savannah grasslands dotted with acacia, rock kopjes, and riverine forests along the banks of the Mara and Talek rivers. The scenery is breathtaking, and the biodiversity is rich, with over 500 species of birds and the Big 5 African mammals, which include lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. The wildebeest migration is also a sight to behold, with over 2 million animals, including 1.5 wildebeests and hundreds of thousands of zebras, elands, impalas, and gazelles. The animals are in the Masai Mara between July and October. Activities to explore nature and wildlife in the Mara include game drives, hot air balloon safaris, and guided nature walks. Apart from wildlife, you'll also have the opportunity to visit the local Maasai community and learn about their culture.
After visiting Masai Mara, you'll fly to Mombasa City and take a boat cruise to Diani Beach. You can relax on the beach there, indulge in water activities like the historic dhow boat cruise, and explore marine wildlife parks such as Bora Bora Wildlife Park.
Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide, who will then drive you to your hotel. After checking in, you can enjoy your dinner and stay at the hotel. If time permits, you may explore some of Nairobi's famous attractions, such as the Nairobi National Museum, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Centre, Maasai Markets, and Nairobi National Park.
After breakfast, you will depart from Nairobi early to Maasai Mara in the Rift Valley. When you arrive, you will check in and have lunch. In the early afternoon, you will embark on a game drive searching for wild animals near the Maasai Mara National Reserve waterholes. Watch for elephants, buffaloes, zebras, waterbucks, wildebeests, elands, and impalas. You will enjoy the sunset view in the park before returning to the lodge for an overnight stay.
The early morning game drive begins at 5 am with a cup of delicious African coffee before entering the park even before sunrise. Your guide will take you to all the best spots to search for predators, such as acacia thickets and rock kopjes scattered throughout the Mara plains. You might see hyenas, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and African wild dogs returning to their dens. After the morning drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. You will visit the Maasai local community outside the park in the afternoon. This visit involves a village walk, and you can bring something to donate while also getting some souvenirs. Finally, you will return to the same lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
After your morning guided walking safari, you will fly from Mara to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. The flight lasts for an hour, and upon arrival, you will be taken to Ukunda airport, which is just 5km away from the beautiful Diani Beach. Once you arrive, you will be picked up and taken to your resort, which is situated right on the beach. Diani Beach boasts stunning white sand beaches and breathtaking ocean views and offers a variety of activities such as swimming and seafood dining.
Today, you can enjoy various activities in Diani, such as walking, swimming, windsurfing, stand-up paddle boarding, and a dhow boat cruise. Additionally, Diani has other attractions like the Kongo mosque and Kaya Kinodo Sacred Forest, home to the Digo people. Those who want to move away from the beach can take a day trip from Diani to the Kisite Marine Park. The marine protected reserve offers snorkelling and a chance to see wildlife such as humpback whales, spinner dolphins, sea turtles, and manta rays.
After breakfast, you will drive to Ukunda Airport, fly back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi, and then proceed to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departing flight.
