Lake Mburo National Park is a perfect destination to start or end your Uganda safari, especially on a gorilla trekking safari to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park. It is one park in Uganda near Kampala, the capital city. This park is most famous for its unmatched wildlife viewing experiences and features breathtaking landscapes.
Lake Mburo National Park is situated in Kiruhura, Western Uganda, and the surrounding districts include Isingiro, Lyantode and Mbarara. In 1933, the present Lake Mburo National Park was a Controlled Hunting Area, and in 1983, it was recognized as a Wildlife Reserve extending to cover a land area of 370 sq. km. It is the most accessible park from the city center, about 4 to 5 hours’ drive.
Lake Mburo National Park is a compact park with many wildlife species. The park supports an estimated population of 68 mammal species, reptiles, 350 bird species and more that survive within its main habitats, including the riparian woodland, papyrus swamps, savannas and Lakes. The different animal species to be spotted include Defassa waterbucks, impalas, Bohor reedbucks, sitatungas, bushbucks, topis, elands, crocodiles, hippos, zebras, giraffes, leopards, jackals, genet, buffaloes, oribis, white-tailed mongoose and hyenas.
