Located in Eastern Uganda, the Sipi Falls are amazingly the most scenic waterfalls and a natural wonder in the pearl of Africa. They are considered the most romantic places in Uganda, featuring a series of 3 stunning waterfalls, with the longest dropping at 100 meters, the second waterfall dropping 65 meters below, and the 3rd waterfall dropping 85 meters.
The triple waterfalls are known for their vigorous flow, creating mist and mini rainbows when the sun is hot. The Sipi Falls attract most visitors, especially couples who want to spend quality time together in the area. These waterfalls have their source on the Mount Elgon slopes.
Sipi is derived from the “Sep” plant that grows around the River Sipi banks. The plant is green and red, strikingly resembling wild bananas. It is a medicinal plant often used by locals for treating fever and measles. Other than Sipi Falls, there are some less popular waterfalls, including Wanale, Sisiyi, Bulago and Chebonet.
The Sipi Falls are spectacular waterfalls in Kapchorwa, Eastern Uganda, northeast Mbale, and Sironko District. They are lying at the edge of Mount Elgon National Park adjacent to the Kenyan border.
Hiking the Sipi Falls: The Sipi Falls is an ideal starting point for most climbers/hikers who want to conquer Mount Elgon's peaks. Hiking is the main highlight of the Sipi Falls tour in Uganda. The hikes can be done with the lead of the local guide, and it takes visitors between 3 and 4 hours to have a complete hike. This involves ascending and descending, navigating through the local farms.
Hikers can use the numerous hiking points to get to the falls, including the Budadiri route, which joins the Sasa trail. The upper falls offer incredible views of Mount Elgon and the sweeping Karamoja plains.
Other safari activities to do besides hiking the Sipi Falls
Other than hiking the Sipi Falls, numerous other activities must be done in and around the Sipi Area. These include touring the Sisiyi waterfalls, perfect for tourists heading to Kidepo Valley National Park. Tour the Bugisu Arabica coffee, which is grown at an elevation of 1550 and 1910 meters. Abseiling, Mount Elgon climbing, bird-watching, fly fishing, cultural and community walks/visits, nature walks, etc.
Sipi Falls enjoys favourable weather and climatic conditions all year through. Each year, 2 seasons occur in the Sipi Falls Area, which is wet and dry. The dry season is the best for hikers to have the most of their hike to the triple waterfalls. The longest dry season runs from June to September, and the last phase starts from December, January to February.

Drive from Kampala city through the Eastern route to Kapchorwa District to explore the Sipi Falls. This is a 4-5 hours road trip along the Kampala-Jinja-Kapchorwa route.
